Pole signs are a type of freestanding sign. With a pole sign, the sign portion of the object sits atop a pole, so that it is raised off the ground, as the name suggests. Pole signs can be of any size, but they are typically quite tall and are typically used externally. You can’t put a 30-foot pole sign inside, for fairly obvious reasons.
Pole signs are especially popular among businesses that sit at a distance from the nearest road.
A pole sign can be used by pretty much any business, as long as you have the authority or permission to install a pole sign on the property. Popular places for pole signs include:
- Malls and shopping plazas
- Highway gas stations and rest stops with restaurants and fast food establishments
- Businesses by the sides of highways
- Businesses that are recessed from the street on their property
You should think of your pole sign as your best employee: the best non-commissioned silent salesperson you are ever going to hire. Research has shown that by adding or upgrading your sign, it can increase sales by 10% or more. Now, of course, there are restrictions on how tall a pole sign can be and where it can go and how bright it can be, etc. Keep in mind, each municipality has their own set of ordinances that govern signage. That’s why it’s best to work with a sign company that knows the ins-and-outs of the permitting process. When was the last time you said to yourself, “Oh good, let me look over some government regulations and go down to city hall to get a permit that I don’t know much about.” Let us do all of that.
